~Artist Statement~
A writer creates by using words while a musician uses notes which repesent his feelings. For the artist it is what is portrayed by a combination of form, line and colour. Whether it is liked or not is imaterial because each of us feels or sees things differently. Were it otherwise we would be living in a very boring world.
My father’s idea of a good artist was one who could paint a chocolate box picture of flowers or fruit. I used to be horrified at the idea but came to appreciate that this was his understanding of “ good art “ and was as valid as was mine to express myself more abstractly. Therefore when I paint I do so for myself.

I see an artist as similar to a wheel. The wheel moves forward capturing the ground beneath it as it rotates and then it leaves tracks. Sometimes the tracks are smooth and sometimes textured, often however they are so subtle that it is difficult to see where they have been or where they are going.

My work is a result of looking at and appreciating what I have seen and then creating tracks with my interpretations. When I paint I become so immersed that I feel myself drawn in. I suppose that this might be considered as being in a meditative state.
