~Artist Statement~
I grew up in Singapore where flowers grew in abundance all year. When I came to the northern hemisphere I had to become acclimatized to not only seasonal changes, which were dramatic to say the very least, but where flowers would wither and die!
All of the flowers I have painted were grown in my Victoria garden where, fortunately, they bloom from February to October. Flowers never fail to amaze me with their bright or subtle colours, structure and forms. Together with their delicate transparent petals and fragrances I find them irresistable.
I was once at a seminar and during a closed eye meditation exercise we were each handed a flower, mine was a rose! Our focus was to be on the form. After a fifteen minute meditation we were asked what three words a flower would say if it were able to verbalize. The answer was simple and would be “I love you !” I guess this is why I paint them.
